This is a Hybrid exercise in digital and tactile ideation which is a sequential process.
Combine and reconfigure all the best parts of your process to date in a hybrid form.
Use the verb ‘Falter‘ to make simple platonic abstract forms that describes the essence of the verb.
make something by combining all the processes so far. question yourself as.
- Which of the digital techniques that you have used have worked well and why?
- Which of the tactile techniques that you have used have worked well and why?
- How can you combine these to further the complexity of the project?
- How can you explore and extend the use of technologies employed in a more unexpected or unpredictable way.
Make sure to print one work in A3 format or larger
Ensure to work and rework until you reach the final desired output.
The first idea was to create 3D shapes in Adobe Illustrator, print them, cut them and photograph them, but I din’t find much inspiration in the process. below is an example of my idea.
My next idea was to create some illustrations on Photoshop, as I didn’t use photoshop in this term. For this process, I choose the images from my 2D and 3D works from previous weeks. I blended the images layer after layer to get the desired outcome and the results were very satisfying for me. below are some of the final illustrations.

In the amidst of the process I decided to project them on to my 3D tactile works because the illustrations are good enough with details that can be projected on to a surface and also avoids monotony, I projected them onto the works and I felt very satisfied with the outcome. Below are the results.

Below is the setup of my work.
Forms touching the edge at one place on the surface
Forms touching the edge at 2 places on the surface
Forms touching the edge at three places or more on the surface
For photoshop files
Positive space taking 80% of surface
Positive space taking 50% of surface
Positive space taking 20% of surface
For photoshop files
For projected photographs
All the images in the project are well made, taking into consideration composition, positive and negative space, figure and field, tone and lighting. two of the final images are printed on a A3 300gsm Satin paper and rest all on a A4 210gsm Satin paper using CMYK color space. I preferred to use the Satin paper because it produced deeper blacks leading to desired outcome compared to Matte paper.
