This is a 2D digital iterative process
Main focus is on
- Spatial recession and projection
- Tone and texture
Tools that can be used are
Use the verb given on the first week ‘Falter’ in this case
Use only Black, white or shades of grey to expression the work
No figurative elements, only simple platonic forms
progress from one work to the other, considering the elements that worked well and eliminate those that are in the way of not communicating the verb well.
Produce 30 works and hang it in the studio

process of making
For the process of making the 2D digital illustrations I took inspiration from the 1st week work reflection, where I mentioned I used different materials but didn’t do many forms with single materials. so in this work most of my forms are in Circular shape, all the top 10 illustrations ended up being the circular forms.
I used the Adobe Illustrator software to produce all of my work.
These are some of the initial trials I made on how to use the adobe illustrator. I was trying different tools and how they can deliver different objects.
Step by step process of a few in making
There are many tools that I used in Illustrator these are among the following.
Symbol sprayer tool+Transforming the symbol+Expanding the object+Ungrouping+Using the scissors tool to cut the desired part+direct transformation tool to finalize the desired outcome+rectangle too to create a background color.
Star tool+Free transform tool+line tool to put the segments+pathfinder tools to divide the selected areas+gradient tool to finalize the illustration.
Elliptical tool to make many ellipses+Duplicate+shape builder tool to join the shapes+gradient tool to get the final outcome.
Polar-grid tool+pathfinder tool to divide the segments+transform tool+pen tool to draw the desired shape+rotate tool+expand object+ungroup+expand appearance+resize+Background color.
Spiral tool+line segment tool+guide tool+blend mode+expand object+ungroup+expand appearance+ background color
Rectangle grid tool+ Free transform tool+rotate tool+distortion tool+Expand object+ungroup+expand appearance+background color.
Some of the illustration roots the idea from the tactile projects among them are.

Works touching the edge at least at two places
Work touching the edge at three or more places
Figure and Field
below are few examples depicting figure and the field
Negative and positive space
illustration with Positive space taking 80% of the surface
Illustrations with positive space taking 50% of surface
Illustrations with positive space taking 20% of surface
Illustrations with positive space taking less than 20% of surface
Tone & Texture
Illustrations with various tonal ranges (see final 30 section of this page) and textures are shown in below illustrations.
All the objects are well made, worked and reworked to get to the final outcome, I tested and tried different tools and techniques to improve on each of these illustrations, all of which are explained in various sections above.

some of the research on digital illustrations can be seen here
some of the videos I referred to on while making my work
I thoroughly enjoyed the process of making the illustrations, I had a chance to learn new tools in making, my next step is to spend time in learning the tools to employ in multiple ways to make the work flow faster.
